Discover the story behind our new single: a real protest song against Alzheimer’s disease.
Mr. Alzheimer is very personal to us. It’s a song inspired by the diseases that has caught David’s mom and so many others. We’ve met Mr. Alzheimer over 15 years ago. And we still don’t like him. He is a silent killer of our greatest good: our thoughts and memories. So that’s why we decided to do a real protest song. Against Alzheimer.
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common and well-known cause of dementia. Most people know it has something to do with memory loss and brain damage. But if you live close to someone suffering from dementia, you can tell there is much more below the surface. One of the worst things beside the physical and psychic discomfort is the fear. You don’t know what you are losing next. And you can’t even tell what you’ve lost already.
In the song we describe the situation of a woman and a man. The woman was a nurse, the man was a volunteer. They symbolize the fact that no matter how much you have given in life; Mr. Alzheimer is around to destroy it all, leaving empty eyes behind. In the bridge of the song, you’ll hear ‘the voices’ of the people suffering from Alzheimer’s ringing through, when they don’t recognize their own daughter, son, partner and so on.
